Andreas Lindberg, Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg, one of the most successful men’s soccer head coaches in the country with a career winning percentage of .753 across 13 seasons was named the new Seton Hall men’s soccer head coach on Dec. 11, 2017. Lindberg came to The Hall after nine years as the head coach of Div. II soccer powerhouse LIU-Post, where he accumulated seven NCAA Tournament appearances.
2019- Following up a successful first year at the helm of the program, Lindberg again put the Pirates in a position to contend for the BIG EAST Tournament with a 3-5-1 campaign... Amongst the squad's biggest victories was a road win over BIG EAST rival Marquette, 2-1 in overtime, the first time either team won on the road since 2014... For the third time in two seasons, Lindberg had a player named to an All-BIG EAST team with Carlton McKenzie garnering second-team honors.
2018- In his first year at Seton Hall, Lindberg led The Hall to an improvement of nearly 100 points in winning percentage. The Hall narrowly missed the BIG EAST Tournament in a 6-7-2 campaign, which included The Hall's first-ever win over BIG EAST rival Butler and its first conference road win since 2014. Following the season two of his charges, David Arvidsson and CJ Tibbling, were named Second Team All-BIG EAST.
From 2009-17, Lindberg led the LIU Post to a record of 139-30-15 (.796), eight East Coast Conference (ECC) regular season championships, six ECC Tournament championships, seven NCAA Tournament appearances and four NCAA East Region championships and berths into the tournament quarterfinals. Five times, LIU-Post has earned a national No. 1 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, and the program has finished in the top-15 in the final season poll in each of the last seven years, including a program-high No. 7 in 2017.
Lindberg’s teams dominated in the ECC with three consecutive tournament championships that have followed incredible regular seasons. Since the start of 2015, LIU-Post has gone an astonishing 25-1-2 in ECC games, including an active 18-game unbeaten streak. Overall, in nine seasons at LIU-Post, Lindberg went 64-8-6 in the ECC, with only three losses coming in the final seven seasons. The conference domination helped Lindberg earn six ECC Coach of the Year awards (2017, 2015, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009). He also is a three-time United Soccer Coaches East Region Coach of the Year (2017, 2015, 2014).
In his LIU-Post tenure, his student-athletes have garnered one Div. II National Player of the Year award, 10 United Soccer Coaches All-America selections, four United Soccer Coaches Academic All-America selections, 26 All-East Region selections, 44 All-ECC selections, six ECC Offensive Player of the Year awards, two ECC Defensive Player of the Year awards, three ECC Goalkeeper of the Year awards and five ECC Rookie of the Year awards.
Prior to his tremendous nine-year run at LIU-Post, Lindberg was the head coach at his alma mater, Southampton College, from 2002-05. He posted a four-year record of 30-14-7 that included a regular season NYCAC title in his first season. Lindberg helped to push Southampton to the national stage, with the program climbing as high as No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll during his time.
In addition to his success in the head coaching ranks, Lindberg has a strong background in the professional and academy ranks. From 2006-07 he was the head coach and general manager of the New York Hampton Surf, a professional indoor soccer club and member of the American Indoor Soccer League (AISL). Lindberg coached the Met Oval Development Academy in Brooklyn from 2007-10, training 15-18 year olds in the USSF Development Academy system. During his time in Brooklyn, three of his charges were selected for U.S. National team training camps. Lindberg also served as the head coach of the Brooklyn Knights of the USL Premier Development League for the 2012 season, guiding the Knights to a four-win improvement from the prior campaign.
Lindberg received a United States Soccer Federation “A” License in 2013 and a “B” License in 2011. He holds a pair of United Soccer Coaches Special Topics Diplomas as well as an Advanced National Diploma from the Organization.
Originally from Sweden, Lindberg was a member of the men’s soccer team at Southampton from 1998-2001 before graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 2002. He earned a Masters of Business Administration from Long Island University in 2004.
Jeff Matteo, Assistant Coach
Jeff Matteo was named an assistant coach for men's soccer prior to the 2018 campaign.
Matteo comes to South Orange with a wealth of BIG EAST experience, having spent the last 11 seasons on the coaching staff across the river at St. John’s. During his time in Queens, the Red Storm made five NCAA Tournament appearances, won three BIG EAST titles and made an appearance in the 2008 College Cup. Matteo helped mentor 13 All-Region selections and 28 All-BIG EAST honorees during his time on the coaching staff at St. John’s.
A former standout on the pitch, Matteo was an All-American and the 2001 BIG EAST Midfielder of the year during his playing days at St. John’s. He played in four NCAA Tournaments with the Red Storm and won a pair of BIG EAST titles. He graduated in with a bachelor of science in telecommunications and a minor in business in 2001 before a five-year professional playing career in the United States and Italy.
Nico Anderson, Assistant Coach
Andersen returns to Seton Hall where he spent his senior season with the Pirates in 2018. He started 14 of the 15 games he appeared in that season, registering a goal and three assists on the campaign. Andersen followed Lindberg to South Orange after playing the first three seasons of his college career under him at LIU Post. Since graduating from Seton Hall, Andersen has spent the last five years as the head of performance at Metropolitan Oval Academy in Queens. He oversaw the creating and structuring strength and conditioning curriculum for the academy's 240+ players
Paul Lancaster, Goalkeeper Coach
Paul Lancaster joined Seton Hall as the Goalkeeper Coach in 2021 and is now entering his third season with the program. In his first year, Seton Hall reached the Big East Semi-Final and earned an NCAA Tournament bid.
Before joining Seton Hall, Paul had a distinguished playing career. He spent seven years in the Liverpool FC youth system, from ages 9-16. At 17, he signed a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) contract, playing for Liverpool's U16 and U18 teams. After his two-year YTS, he secured a one-year professional contract, training with Liverpool's reserve team and first team squad.
Paul went on to earn an Associate Degree in Sports and Exercise Science from theUniversity of Central Lancashire, while also playing for AFC Fylde for two seasons.
In 2011, Paul moved to Michigan, where he joined Michigan Chill Soccer Club as theDirector of Goalkeeping for five years, while also coaching the 2004 Boys Director’s Academy team.
In 2017, Paul relocated to New Jersey, where he became the Director of Operations atShatliff Soccer, a soccer training company.
Paul holds several coaching qualifications, including:
- FA Level 1 & 2
- NSCAA Advanced National Diploma
- NSCAA Goalkeeping Levels 1, 2, and 3
- USSF C License
Irvin Zuzic, Director of Soccer Operations
Zuzic was a four-year member of the men's soccer program at East Stroudsburg University from 2016-19, tallying 17 goals and 14 assists in 53 career matches. Upon finishing his playing career, Zuzic got his first coaching gig as a graduate assistant with ESU as he completed his master's degree in communications. Zuzic has spent the last three years as the director of administration at Colonial Sports Group in Southampton, N.Y
